In an attempt to romanticize my life, I woke up this morning early enough to catch the sunrise. I packed my bag, hopped on my not-so-little pink bike, and rode off to the beach to catch the sunrise. I sat on the floor with my morning coffee, my laptop, and my Spotify French playlist. I came for the sunrise, but I got so much more. I experienced people peopling. And it was the most satisfying thing to watch.
I witnessed an old couple holding hands and enjoying their morning stroll at the beach. There were several people walking their canine friends. Can’t forget the fitness enthusiasts on their morning run as their clothes billow in the wind. The surfer girl with her surfboard. Even the birds came out to say hello. It was refreshing to see. To see people living, people taking time out to enjoy the little things.
I was exchanging the warmest good mornings with strangers and acknowledging one another with the most welcoming smiles. I had one of those mornings you see in a foreign rom-com montage.
Feet in the sand, mind, and body in the present. Me and my five senses, in the state of flow. Possibly the most joy I’ve ever felt.
We chase big dreams and work tirelessly in the pursuit of a good life in the future. Whilst doing all these, we ignore the most important thing. The present; now.
There are always going to be endless worries and challenges. It’s the nature of life. These worries are often about the past or the future. The most peaceful place you can be in is in the now. Every now and then remember to pause, breathe and be present in your experience.
We underestimate the power of the little things. Sometimes the most mundane things bring the most fulfillment.
As you go about your day chasing the big things, don’t forget to take note of the little things. Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses, literally and figuratively.
